Northeast Chapter Updates

The third meeting of the Northeast Chapter of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists was held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. This was held in conjunction with the Penn State Dairy Cattle Nutrition Workshop at Grantville, PA. There were 51 ARPAS members in attendance. A short annual meeting was held to nominate candidates for the upcoming year. Annual elections will take place in early 2014 after NE Chapter dues have been tabulated. The officers will propose a list to candidates for respective offices.
Kenneth Cummings, Executive VP, ARPAS discussed the membership requirements, standard code of ethics, annual CEU requirements & dues, exams and a new national ARPAS program to attract student membership. The new NE ARPAS Section Director- Jud Heinrichs was introduced. He will be responsible for the national ARPAS quarterly newsletter.
A mini-symposium has held after the short meeting and the presenter was Dr. Limin Kung, University of Delaware discussing the topic “Unlocking the Potential of Starch Availability in Corn Silage and High Moisture. This was the first year to hold a mini-symposium with our annual meeting. The sponsors of the symposia were; Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition, Zinpro Corporation, and Akey Nutrition.
