This year’s ARPAS Symposium at the ADSA-ASAS Joint Annual Meeting (JAM) will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the Indianapolis Convention Center. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. Details on the meeting room will be available with the JAM program is published. 

Our topic this year is “Applied nutrition of ruminants: Current status and future directions.” We have an outstanding group of speakers who will provide updates on utilization of nutrients by ruminants. Topics and speakers include:

1. Nutrient requirements: derivation, validation, and application – Mike Galyean (Texas Tech University); 
2. Fermentation and digestive physiology – Clint Krehbiel (Oklahoma State University);
3. Carbohydrate and lipid nutrition – Mary Beth Hall (USDA-ARS, Madison, WI);
4. Protein nutrition - speaker – Fred Owens (DuPont Pioneer);
5. Mineral and vitamin nutrition – Jerry Spears (North Carolina State).

This symposium should attract considerable interest from scientists in both the academic and industry communities. Speakers have been asked to prepare review-type manuscripts to submit to the Professional Animal Scientist, and we believe these papers will have tremendous value for the industry and add to the stature of the journal.
