The 2011 ARPAS Symposium, "Understanding Meta-Analysis," will be held Tuesday, July 12 in conjunction with the joint meeting of the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) and the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA). The joint ASAS and ADSA meeting is scheduled for July 10–14, 2011, in New Orleans, LA.

Three speakers will address topics intended to help ARPAS members combine and interpret results from multiple research studies. Dr. Fred Owens of Pioneer Hybrids will start the symposium with a presentation titled "Unsophisticated 'Cowboy' Methods Used Traditionally to Merge Results From Multiple Experiments." Next, Dr. Guy Loneragan, an epidemiologist from Texas Tech University, will describe how to conduct a meta-analysis with a presentation titled "Meta-Analysis-by-Example 101." Finally, Dr. Ian Lean of SBScibus in New South Wales Australia will present: "Meta-Analysis: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." The symposium will conclude with a panel discussion featuring the speakers and Dr. Steve Armbruster, a feedlot nutritionist from Stillwater, OK.
