The Washington DC Area Chapter has been very active this fall. Lonnie Luther, PAS, DACAS, president elect, is in charge of the monthly noon luncheon speakers. Our noon monthly meetings started in September and will continue through March, with our half-day symposium and banquet in April.
For our September meeting, the speaker was Mark Rasmussen, acting director, Division of Animal and Food Microbiology, Office of Research, FDA-CVM. He spoke on "Antimicrobial Resistance: Plant Secondary Compounds as Efflux Pump Inhibitors." For our October meeting, the speaker was Mark Feldlaufer, research entomologist, Invasive Insect Biocontrol and Behavior Laboratory, ARS-Beltsville. He spoke on "Biology and Chemical Ecology of Bed Bugs." For our November meeting, our speaker was Lowell Randel, Federation of Animal Science Societies (FASS) Washington representative. He spoke on "FASS in Washington: Connecting Science and Policy."
