ARPAS Exams

ARPAS currently offers proctored online exams that can be taken anywhere and during a window that works for your unique schedule, as well as in-person exams at select animal science meetings.

Anyone interested in sitting for the examination should start by completing an ARPAS application and indicating what type of exam—online or paper—you prefer to take.

After your application, fee(s), and photo ID are received and reviewed by the ARPAS business office, the ARPAS administrator will contact you via email to schedule your exam.

A full two hours are allocated for the exam, and applicants can review the exam session requirements below.

Available Now! New ARPAS Online Exam Portal

ARPAS now offers online exams that can be accessed 24/7 for beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, companion animals, and poultry. Take the exams from anywhere and when it works best for you!

Is your species online exam not available yet? Apply today to get on the list and be the first to know when your exam is ready.

Getting Started

Become an ARPAS member today by first completing an ARPAS application and reviewing our study materials.

Once your application, fee(s), and photo ID are received and reviewed by the ARPAS business office, we’ll create an account for you with Prolydian, our online exam portal.

You’ll then receive an “Update Your Account” email from support@prolydian.com and an “Authorization to Test” email with instructions for logging into your testing account and scheduling your exam.

You’ll have 30 days to schedule your exam, and all exams require 48-hour advance scheduling, meaning you’ll be able to take your exam 48 hours (at the earliest) after your account is set up.

We recommend adding support@prolydian.com to your safe senders list and checking your spam folder. Contact support@prolydian.com if you haven’t received your account setup email or have Prolydian account questions.

Please review the instructions below to ensure your technology is compatible, that you have proper ID documents prepared, and that you are familiar with the exam guidelines before scheduling your exam.

We encourage you to take your online ARPAS exam from your personal desktop or laptop computer. Need to use a work computer instead? Please have your IT department review the port and firewall settings here.

Check your equipment to make sure your system is compatible with Proctor360. If you experience any issues with the computer check, please fill out a support ticket.

Before you schedule your exam, we recommend checking that you have the appropriate documents ready to verify your identity as you begin your exam, including one of the following options:

  • Government-issued driver’s license or photo ID card
  • College- or university-issued staff photo ID
  • Passport
  • US military–issued ID card or any international military-issued ID card
  • Any physical government-issued ID card (must include photo)

Expired IDs will not be allowed. The first name, last name, and expiration date on your ID must be in English characters, and the photo must match your face. The full name on the ID must match the full name on your exam account with Prolydian.

If your ID does not meet these criteria on the day of your test, you will not be allowed to proceed and will need to reschedule your test.

If you do not have a valid, unexpired ID with English characters or the full name on your exam account does not match the details on your ID, please contact support@prolydian.com for advice.

  • You cannot test in public venues or libraries.
  • You must be in a private, secure room by yourself for the full duration of the exam.
  • You must test on a hard surface, such as a desk or table, and sit on a chair. Testing from a sofa, bed, couch, etc., is strictly prohibited.
  • Before you begin your exam, the proctor will conduct a thorough environment check and ask you to show all four corners of your room and the top and underneath your testing surface.
  • You must have a working built-in or external webcam to complete the full room sweep. You’ll also need to make sure you have a working built-in or external microphone to communicate with your proctor
  • Your desk must be completely clear of all materials. There should be no papers, pens, pencils, or sticky notes on the desk.
  • Second monitors are not allowed. Additional monitors should be disconnected and removed from the examination desk.
  • You cannot use headsets or earbuds.
  • There should be no cell phones with you or within arm’s reach.
  • Only clear bottles of water can be kept on the exam desk. No other food or beverage is allowed.
  • You must be silent and not read the questions out loud during the exam.
  • There must be no background noise in the exam room.
  • There should be no smartwatches with you or within arm’s reach.
  • Academic dishonesty: The proctor will provide a warning and re-secure the environment with another camera pan. If the behavior continues, the exam will be shut down, and a report will be sent to Prolydian for review.

Restroom breaks: Restroom breaks are not allowed unless a special accommodation has been requested and approved by emailing support@prolydian.com (including your name, email, and address, as well as the exam type and scheduled exam date) before sitting for the exam. The duration of such approved breaks will be predetermined and communicated to the proctors accordingly.

You can schedule your exam anytime within the 30-day window of your Prolydian account creation using your “My Exams” dashboard. Please allow a minimum of 48 hours advance notice between scheduling and taking the exam.

After scheduling your exam in your Prolydian account, you’ll receive an email with instructions on what to do before and on the day of your exam, as well as the technical requirements. A reminder email with the same information is sent three days before your exam.

  • Late arrivals: Testing candidates who arrive more than 15 minutes late for their established exam time will be declared a no-show and must be rescheduled.
  • Rescheduling the Exam: Exam rescheduling can be done 48 hours before your scheduled appointment.
    • Go to your My Exams dashboard.
    • Click the reschedule button below your exam registration.

On the day of your exam, log in a few minutes before the exam start time. You may want to refresh the screen at the time of the exam. To access your exam,

  1. Log into your Prolydian account at https://proctor360.prolydian.com
  2. Go to the “My Exams” dashboard and click the “Launch Exam” button
    • This button will be enabled one minute before your exam time. If you arrive early, please refresh the page to see the “Launch Exam” button
    • Please note that you have a 30-minute check-in window starting at your exam start time. If you log in after this window, you will not be able to test
  3. Click “Start Session”
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to share your screen and check your equipment
  5. Follow the identity-verification instructions

At the end of the online examination, you must submit your exam by clicking “Exit Exam.” You will receive feedback on your provisional results by email and within 30 minutes of exiting the exam. These results cannot be considered final until your organization has verified them following an exam status report from Proctor360.

Final verified results will be emailed to you within one week of your exam.

If you do not receive notification of your verified results from ARPAS within four weeks of the exam, please contact us!

Which browser should I use to take my exam?

Prolydian supports all major, updated browsers, such as Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. The system does not support outdated browsers such as Internet Explorer.

If you use Internet Explorer or an outdated browser, the system will alert you that some functionality may not be available. Please update the browser or install an updated browser before continuing.

Be sure to check any specific requirements for the proctoring service that your exam provider uses.

What operating system should I use to take the exam?

Prolydian supports all operating systems, including MacOS. The only requirement is that an updated browser is installed on the operating system.

Be sure to check any specific requirements for the proctoring service that your exam provider uses.

Can I use a tablet or similar device?

Yes! Tablets are supported; however, we recommend using a laptop or desktop computer for the best user experience. Remote proctored exams have additional requirements, so always make sure you complete the computer requirements check before you begin your exam.

Be sure to check any specific requirements for the proctoring service that your exam provider uses.

What internet speed is required?

Prolydian’s exam delivery system is designed to require a minimal internet connection speed. Speeds greater than five megabits per second are recommended; however, slower speeds will still allow you to access and complete the exam. You will not lose exam time due to slower internet connections.

We recommend having a hard-wired connection instead of a wireless connection to prevent any disruptions; however, stable wireless connections are acceptable.

How do I schedule my remote proctored exam?

You can schedule your exam directly from your Prolydian account. Log into the system and then go to the “My Exams” page. Click the “Schedule” button and follow the steps. A step-by-step guide on scheduling can also be found here

This is my first time taking a Prolydian exam. What can I expect?

First off, good luck with your exam! We know that exam day is stressful, so we strive to make your experience a good one. Prolydian’s exam-delivery engine was designed to be intuitive and user friendly. The buttons will be very clear, and navigation between questions will be easy.

This is my first remote proctored exam. What’s it like?

Taking a remote proctored exam gives you the freedom and convenience to take your exam when you want to. Remotely proctored exams provided by our partners require you to complete a few steps before you begin your exam. You can find those steps here.

When you’re ready to start your exam, you’ll be connected with a proctor, who will verify your identity and check your surroundings. Make sure the room is free of people, pets, and clutter. You’ll complete a 360-degree sweep of the room to make sure it’s free of anything that might get in the way of your testing experience, and then the test will begin. You must have a working built-in or external webcam to complete the full room sweep. You’ll also need to make sure you have a working built-in or external microphone to communicate with your proctor. You must stay on screen for the exam duration; otherwise, the proctor may have to pause or stop the session.

What should I do if I get disconnected during my remote proctored exam?

If there’s an interruption in your exam session, your proctor will attempt to call you to attempt to continue the session. They’ll also email you instructions on how to restart the session. You can also contact the proctoring partners’ support team for more help.

What should I do if I experience an error during testing?

Don’t worry! Neither your exam nor your exam time will be affected by any error you encounter. The system saves the exam time regularly throughout the exam, including after every question. Your current item and all prior responses are also saved, so the system will resume the exam at the point where the error occurred.

Please close your browser and then reopen it. Follow all previous steps you took to launch your exam.

The system will redirect you to the “Continue Exam” page. Click the “Continue Exam” button, and you will be redirected to the most recent item you viewed.

What if I have to cancel or reschedule?

Cancel or reschedule your exam via your Prolydian Examinee Dashboard

Who should I contact if I am unable to resolve an issue during testing?
